Other than his face augments, Michael could pass as totally human. Though his augments made him a much more capable pilot of all forms of machinery, they did not make him any better at anything outside of those machines.
The red logicon on his forhead was actually a badge as a sign of military, and not a part of his augment.
Many test pilots were imaged to help train large machine learning platforms which eventually would evolve into AI pilots such as the dragon series AIs (with Dragon herself being the prototype of that series). Though a handful of pilots like Michael were uploaded, none of the AIs seem to have his or his former wing mate's direct characteristics.
All gen 1 augment had the spinal array grafted. This was the safest way to capture the full range of signals from the brain to communicate them to the experimental ships which Michael was tasked with testing.
During Michael's time in the service, the only way to survive piloting the types of equipment he was given was to wear this full bio-suit. The suit, while uncomfortable, created a safety buffer interfaced with the ships while also protecting his squishy human parts.
